#SunWLFI75MFreeze: The Largest Investor in Trump's Crypto Project Is Now Suing It
Justin Sun put $75 million into World Liberty Financial. He's now suing them in federal court.
The dispute goes back to September 2025, when WLFI used an undisclosed blacklist function embedded in its smart contract to freeze 595 million of Sun's unlocked tokens — triggered after Sun moved roughly $9 million worth of tokens to external wallets. WLFI called it a security measure. Sun called it a trap door.
The blacklist itself is the most damaging detail. According to the complaint, WLFI quietly modified the smart contract in August 2025 to add the function — without a governance vote, without disclosure to investors, buried in code on the public blockchain. Sun's description was blunt: "In the dark of night, the company created a blacklisting function it could wield at will."
WLFI's own defense made it worse. The project compared the freeze function to controls used in USDT and USDC — centralized stablecoins that explicitly operate with admin override powers. That comparison concedes that a token marketed as a governance instrument for decentralized finance has the same centralized control structure as a dollar peg. That's not a defense. That's the accusation.
The coercion allegations add another layer. Sun claims WLFI co-founder Chase Herro threatened to burn his tokens unless Sun publicly requested the burn himself, and separately threatened to report Sun to US authorities over alleged KYC issues. Sun's tokens have lost over $80 million in value since the freeze.
WLFI token is down 74% from its August 2025 high. The governance proposal that would extend vesting and potentially force burns passed while Sun's tokens were frozen — meaning the project's largest investor had no vote on terms that directly affected his position.
Sun was careful to frame this as a dispute with the WLFI team, not Trump. It didn't matter. The lawsuit is now in a California federal court, and the questions it raises about WLFI's centralized controls aren't going away.
